Pink Panther Moods

Sometimes you just need a drastic change in your life, and this year, it meant chopping off the long blonde locks (before below) & trying out all pink for the first time (after above). I’m turning 29 this year, and before I was “too old” to try fun colors (even though that’s not a thing), I wanted one last stab at fun colors before I turned 30. Don’t worry, I fully plan to rock pinks/lavenders again when my hair goes white. This will do for now.

All About My Hair

I've always felt like finding the perfect hair stylist for yourself, is just as important and as hard finding your soulmate. It's like finding your hair-mate. Lucky for me, I found her, and her name is Rory, from the Bellevue location 7 Salon. Usually going in to get my hair cut or colored, requires me to do a lot of mental preparation and the process can be full of anxiety while I wait to see the finished product, but Rory has yet to disappoint me at the slightest.

In fact, when I went in a few days ago to touch up my color and relayer my hair, she left me in shock. She gave me exactly what I wanted with my color: which was to bring up the color and add lighter texturizing pieces to the ends. After she balayages my hair she puts in a toner to remove any brassiness. I don't know how she does it, but she always gets the toning just right, so as the toner fades off, you just get more beautiful versions of your hair color. Rory is also the first hair stylist I've had, to curl my hair exactly the way I would do. In fact, she did it better. Using a large curling iron, she had me feeling like a Victoria's Secret model! :)

While I'm in this hair euphoria moment, I thought I'd share some facts about how I care for my hair, and what I ask for cut wise, since I get asked that it a lot on a regular basis.

For my hair cut, I always as for facial framing, starting at my jawline, and long layers. Most importantly, I like the back of my hair really tapered like a "sharp V" shape. My hair is quite naturally full and heavy, so the layers & V shape helps remove some of the weight.

Because my hair is colored, everything I do in terms of hair care is to make sure I don't dry it out. Rule no. 1 is don't wash your hair everyday. Did you know that in the 1800s, people only washed their hair once a month? Now I wouldn't go to that extent, but in all honestly, your hair doesn't need be washed every day. That will just strip your hair of it's natural oils and dry it out over time. I personally wash it every 3-4 days (every 2 days if I'm working out a lot that week). Even when I do "wash" it, I don't use shampoo.

I use WEN by Chaz Dean's Cleansing Conditioner. I'm sure a lot of you guys have either heard of it or seen it on TV, but once I tried it last year, I haven't been able to go back to regular shampoo & conditioner. It's on the pricier side, but my hair colors last way way longer. Plus, I always hated how your hair felt so dry after you shampoo, that you feel like you have to drown it in conditioner. WEN cleansing conditioner is a one step product that doesn't dry your hair & I highly recommend it.

After I was my hair I always spray on Tresemme's Heat Tamer Spray, even if I'm not using heat. I guess it's out of habit, but I curl my hair a lot and blow dry my hair 90% of the time, and I've been using this product for over 7 years, and I wouldn't use anything else.

The last essential product to my haircare routine is Garnier Fructis's Anti-Frizz Serum. I've been using this serum for over 8 years now & it never fails to give me that extra shine when I need it. Now that I use WEN though, my hair has been a lot healthier, so my use of this has gone down, but I always go back to it after a fresh color.

Well, that's it! That's all I do to my hair on a regular basis. It's simple yet it works for me, so I hope you found that information useful. If you have any of your own hair care tips that you live by, I would love to hear it. Leave a comment! Until next time, xo JEN
